Hair growth routine for black hair
Black is beautiful and so is our hair but having a natural hair these days is quite stressful which has led a lot of young girls and women especially in Africa to use relaxers on their hair. This has damaged a lot of hair and a lot of ladies are switching back to afro. Thanks to inventions and technology, they have helped to encourage and help ladies to keep and maintain their afro hair.
I used to relax my hair as well but I noticed my hair never grew beyond that length, maybe it's the unfavorable weather I African or maybe I wasn't maintaining it properly so I decided to start all over again and this time around I'm sticking to my afro hair.
So here are some tips on how to maintain your hair..
1. Wash your hair regular: nothing beats good hair hygiene. Always wash your hair regularly to keep it neat, fresh and moisturized
2. Deep conditioning: if you can buy hair products, you can make one for yourself, I blend avocado, coconut oil, egg and mayo as my deep conditioner, very easy to make, you can also check for other homemade deep conditioning methods and go with anyone suitable for you.
3. Conditioning: you need to understand the difference between these two, I use conditioner I got from the store to apply on my hair after I shampoo, this makes my hair soft after wash.
4. Leave-in conditioner: I use olive oil leave-in conditioner, I realized that works better on my hair. I apply this when my hair is semi dry, this helps retain the moist in my hair.
5. Style your hair: this helps protect your hair from external damage. You could braid, fix weavons or wear a wig.
6. Don't go to bed with your bare hair lose: always protect your hair, you can segment your hair and give it a quick braid before hitting the pillows and using a silky hair bonnet would help reduce friction with your hair when you're asleep.
7. Avoid heating gadgets: hair straightener, hair dryer, hair curler etc, these gadgets can damage your hair and if you have a good intention of growing your hair, try by all means to avoid them.
8. Eat enough vegetables and vitamins: this play a major part in your hair growth, healthy body equal healthy skin so chew on that steamed broccoli, lol
9. Don't be too hard on your hair: you've only got one hair to take care of(at least visibly) so be gentle with the combing and hair styles. Avoid hair styles that are too tight, they can break and damage your hair and also cause you headache, that's too much pain to bare.
10. Use hair growth oils: there are a lot of hair growth oil made for easy usage, just find the one that works best for you or better still a homemade oil will do.
In my next post I'll share some homemade recipes for deep conditioning and hair growth oil but for now, try this hack and let's see the magic.
